urban blues

'....Urban Blues, using electric amplification, emerged in the northern cities of the United States (chiefly Chicago) as exemplified by Howlin' Wolf (Chester Burnett), Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield) and John Lee Hooker'.

'Urban Blues evolved to become Rhythm and Blues.'

Tuesday 9th at the Pump House, Watford - Guest Band.....It's free! See the links page for Pump House details

Too late, you missed it! A wonderful first night for the band. Played to a packed and very appreciative audience in one of the nicest venues around. We had a blast and the crowd did too. Make sure you catch us at either the Tithe Barn or The Dog and Partridge.

Sunday 4th at the Tithe Barn (Harrow museum) - 12:00-1:30 (lunchtime) It's free!

Another rousing set. What a smashing venue and brilliant crowd. Another freebie run by volunteers and they deserve all our support. Great acts each and every Sunday lunchtime. Check out their site for details.
December 2007
Saturday 1st at the Dog & Partridge. First set kicks off at about 8:45pm -ish.

Did our biggest set yet - over 2hrs! Lots of new numbers and the first outing for our shiny new PA and sound engineer (Richard). The crowd and the Landlord were singing along and dancing so I guess we acquitted ourselves pretty well! Been asked back in the New Year (see below).

Saturday 23rd at the Dog & Partridge. First set kicks off at about 8:45pm -ish. Click here for directions (note: change to the date).

Triumphant return to the Dog and Partridge! Much better sets than our last visit, with the new songs very well received. A very polished performance. A great time was had by all (and England whipped the French in Paris, to boot)!

Tuesday 26th returning as a Guest Band to the Pump House, Watford. We had a hoot last time we were there and we're looking forward to doing it again.

Another wonderful night at the Pump House! Another big crowd who were very enthusiastic in their support for us and the other acts on that night. Our two sets were markedly different from the sets we did back in October and the new songs went brilliantly. Our regulars commented that our performance is getting more and more polished and slick. We're hoping to get another call back in a couple of months time.

April 2008
Sunday 20th at at the Tithe Barn (Harrow museum) - 12:00-1:30 (lunchtime) It's free!

Played two shortened sets at this glorious venue to an appreciative audience. Went really well and everyone was pleased with our offering. First time out with Paul and Colin on backing vocals. No glasses shattered so we must've done OK! Can't wait for the May Day gig at the same venue.
May 2008
Monday 5th (May Bank Holiday) - at the Tithe Barn (Harrow Museum)- Afternoon concert (starting at about noon) featuring a number of local bands and performers; including Urban Blues.

We were given a 30 min set so only managed to cram in 7 songs; all well received. Our regulars said it was the best we've sounded and we gave a 'performance' - which was good as we have been working on that aspect. The day itself was glorious and there were hundreds of people - of all ages - at the venue many of whom caught our set and we got a very warm reception to match the weather (it was really hot on that stage!)

July 2008

Sunday 6th July at the Tithe Barn (Harrow museum) - 12:00-1:30 (lunchtime) It's free!

Two more jam-packed all action sets at this lovely venue and considering the weather, the clash with the Brirish Grand Prix and the men's final of Wimbledon , a good crowd was in attendance. This was the first outing for LL's new Telecaster and the first performance of five or six new numbers.

Sheila treated one of the audience (whose birthday it was) to an impromptu 'Happy Birthday' a la Marilyn Monroe - which went down brilliantly. We had a blast and the crowd were very generous with their appreciation.

Saturday 26th at The George, Nash Mills (southern outskirts of Hemel Hempstead, close to Kings Langley; click on the name for directions and info). Kicking off at about 8:45pm and going through till 11:00pm or thereabouts with a break between sets. Free admission!

A marathon session! Close on 2 hours 20 minutes on a hot and steamy night. The punters were enthusiastic in their appreciation asking for an encore which the Govenor acceeded to on the proviso that donations were made to the Air Ambulance Appeal....how could we refuse? So we gave 'em a blast of Route 66 which they loved.

Looking forward to the next booking at this lovely friendly venue when, we hope, it'll be a little cooler!
